Lloyd was born and raised (until the age of 16) in Oklahoma, where his father was Director of Information at The Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA). He left college to work as an Electro-mechanical design draftsman for two firms (General Kinetics, Inc. and Farrington Electronics, Inc.) over the next 3-1/2 years, then entered the insurance business in 1970 as an agent for John Hancock Mutual Insurance Co. While I did a lot of 'job-hopping' in the insurance industry, I now feel I have found my destiny and a profession I can stick to until retirement."
Lloyd quickly settled into the job, setting up a local computer BBS (Bulletin Board Service) in order to make information available to members and the public about architecture in early 1993, and put the AIAPVC and MSAIA on the World Wide Web in September, 1995.
