What are the Benefits of AIA Membership?
The AIA Potomac Valley Chapter has SIX categories of membership. Under each category is an interactive application for membership, which you can complete right now and print to your printer, if you have installed the Adobe Acrobat Reader (version 3.01 or higher), which you can get for FREE HERE...![]()

Architect Member, for registered architects.
Associate or Intern Member, for those who work for an architect (assoc.), or are registered in the Intern Development Program (Intern).
Student Allied Member: Any person who is a registered student in a school of architecture at an accredited university may join as a student member. Membership runs from September 1 to August 31 of the following year.
Allied Professional or Professional Affiliate Member for those who depend on the same sources as architects for their income (Allied Professional), such as licensed professionals, contractors, surveyors, etc., or depend on architects for their income (Professional Affiliates), such as manufacturers reps., suppliers, etc. (click the application under the category for more information!)
Unassigned Members: Any member who is a regular (voting) member of another chapter, and would like to avail themselves of AIAPVC member benefits without transferring their membership, may join as an “Unassigned” member (with all chapter priviledges except voting) by paying regular chapter dues for their dues category. Their “Assigned” (voting) membership remains at their “Home” chapter.

Professional Affiliate members are dependent upon architects for at least part of their income. Some examples are: Accountant; photographer; attorney; financial planner; insurance agent; supplier/mfr. representative.
Allied Professional members are dependent upon the same sources as architects for at least part of their income, and are typically licensed by their state in order to perform their duties. Some examples are: contractors; developers; engineers; home inspector; interior designer; landscape architect; surveyor; subcontractor, etc.

Unassigned Membership
Unassigned membership entitles the member to all the rights and privileges of regular membership in the chapter, except voting (voting stays with Primary Chapter), including participation in our Annual Design Awards Program. You must be an assigned member in good standing of an AIA Chapter in order to join in this category. See application below for more information.
